Series 4000 EMU Right hand Restraint Glove

Space Shuttle Program Series 4000 Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) Restraint Glove Assembly is Class I flight hardware. NASA sewn-in Parts ID label reads: "Restraint Assembly, Item: Glove 4000, Part No. 0106-88936-10, Serial No. 284, Size 04, Code ID 74897, Mfg. 1/00". The Restraint Glove was manufactured by ILC Dover. Development of the Series 4000 started in 1985 as follow on to the 3000 series glove to reduce bladder bunching, and improve fit and mobility. They were first flown in 1986, and continued through 1991 when it was replaced by the Phase VI glove. The 4000 Series was based on nine standard hand sizes, and provides a “closest fit” glove sizing capability. Further development of the 4000 series gloves resulted in customization for astronauts that did not fit into one of the nine standard sizes. Condition is new/unflown. NASA parts bag with several NASA labels is included. Labels include: Clean Label, parts labels, excess label, expiration tag showing 4-3-08 expiration date, and artifact label. Originally offered as part of NASA Artifacts Program, and subsequently sold as NASA surplus. NASA acquisition cost $7,335.00.

Ten strings (2 per finger) are used to adjust the sizing of each finger. A small blue metal ring (one per string) is used to lock each of the strings into place. There are 16 holes at the wrist where the Restraint Glove is attached bearing ring.
